Often reaching the ridge of the mountain or on the strip of a slope, I try to discover beyond the edge the perfect mountain landscape that every photographer is looking for. What determines us to press the trigger ?
As John Muir said “ You are not in the mountains, the mountains are in you“, determine how good your mountain photography is. Often mountain landscape is payed with the effort, facing the strong elements of nature, altitude, solitude.
Seen from above The Earth is totally different. From this perspective things, people, animals are seen in an unusual way. Low altitude flight give us a perspective similar as a bird. What an advantage for a photographer, to get so quickly up in the sky with a drone. It's one of the most important step forward in photography, in terms of choosing your point of station.
We are connected to the landscape photography due to our experiences in nature and that, most of the time, have left us strong impressions. The state of the weather is the one that creates the state in which we perceive a landscape. Bright sunrises or dramatic sunsets delight our eyes and bring us to the scene. Distant places but also the neighborhoods can become a landscape subject. The way the photographer sees the landscape defines his connection with nature. Landscape is the kind of photography that requires a lot of discernment to the photographer because of the ease of falling in cliche.
Flowers are like women: beautiful, fragile, delicate. As a nature lover I am fascinated by flowers and every time a wild flower comes out of my way, I stop to make a portrait expressing its fragility and ephemera. This is probably why when we love women we think of flowers.
People are the most widely discussed subject in photography. People's activities are what define them in society, so in my photos you will see people living their daily lives, with all the moments of work, joy, sadness or celebration. The average man is the star of my photos.
The most intense contact with nature, full of adrenaline and admiration, is when I photograph wildlife. Waiting the large mammals or seeing the morning passage of the birds, connects me with the peace and quiet of nature. And when they appear, in their whole splendor and beauty I get my reward in photos and my admiration for the wildlife kingdom.
As Eliot Porter said: „ Sometimes you can tell a large story with a tiny subject,“ the intimate landscape is about finding details, patterns, colours, texture. Maybe this is not a comprehensive definition but a good starting point in order to discover nature.
Sometimes forest can be a place of ancestral fears, dark labyrinths, but also a place of self-discovery, meditation and finding the way to light. My forests are explorations of the vegetable world in its most ornate form, the tree. Singular or forming a forest body, the trees find their path to the light supporting one each other while being in competition.
Water, when it flows is like time, unstoppable. When standing still it is like a mirror that turns the space upside down. And in both cases it is shaped according to the environment in which it exists. Probably this metamorphosis of the water makes us photographers to love it and to picture it.
